Op Manna Tribute

In May a group of veterans, all of whom served in Operation Manna, visited the Centre to present a picture to the IBCC.

The picture, which was taken at RAF Coningsby at the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, had been signed by each of the veterans and mounted with the signatures of four VC recipients and the RAF insignia.  It now takes pride of place in the café and draws a great deal of attention.

The gentlemen spent the day with us, spending time at the Spire and in the exhibition before joining us for lunch.  It was a day full of laughter and the sharing of memories and, for our other guests, proved to be a fantastic bonus to their visit.

The veterans were:

Flt Lt Len McNamara DFC Ld’H – 10/158/75 Sqd

Flt Sgt Jack Cook – 100/104 Sqd

W/O Maurice Snowball – 550 Sqd

W/O Frank Tolley – 625 Sqd

P/O Jeff Brown – 576 Sqd

W/O Harry Parkins – 630/576 Sqd

W/O Roy Briggs – 576/156 Sqd
