Wing Commander Jack Martin

Wing Commander Jack Martin RAAF, an equipment officer in the RAAF, was transferred to England and attached to Bomber Command on 19 June 1944, with stints at No. 3 Group H.Q. near Newmarket; No. 31 Base, Stradishall as Base Equipment Officer; No. 40 Group H.Q., Andover; No. 56 Maintenance Wing, Annan, Scotland and No. 14 Maintenance Unit, Carlisle; then No. 16 Maintenance Unit at Stratford, where he was in charge of 1500 staff.

On 1 May 1945 he was attached to 2 TAF H.Q. in Brussels. Entered Germany 2 days before the end of the war. With Paddy Kieron, he was given the mission to travel through Germany to locate a suitable site for 2 TAF Advance Base, eventually choosing Celle.
