RCAF 420 Squadron left RAF Waddington in August 1942 moving to RAF Skipton on Swale and then onto RAF Middleton St George in October 1942. Lin remained with the squadron until June 1943 when they were deployed overseas to North Africa.

For the remainder of 1943 Lin was assigned to 1664 Heavy Conversion Unit based at RAF Croft before moving to RAF Dishforth in 1944. Lin remained at RAF Dishforth until the base was disbanded in September 1945.
