The multi-award winning IBCC opened in January 2018 after a 7-year development programme. The Centre, comprises a Memorial, two landscaped Peace Gardens, an exhibition over three galleries, café, hospitality/education facilities and retail area. In addition, the project has an extensive and free to access digital research resource which has been the source for both the names on the Memorial Walls and the exhibition.
Since opening, the Centre has attracted over 440,000 visitors from 52 different countries and has won 31 awards, covering every area of the project. This includes being awarded the bronze award for Best Large Visitor Attraction in England, in 2023.
The centre opens 6 days per week (closed on Mondays, with the exception of Bank Holidays) and is also open for occasional evening events. In addition, the project runs a varied events programme throughout the year attracting a variety of audiences.
