Miscellaneous Information
Joseph was born on 6 November 1923 in Montreal. His parents were both born in Russia, Aron in Zhitomir Volhynia, a Tailor (who pre-deceased Joseph) and Rebecca in Minsk. Joseph also had a married sister, Doris Ruskin. His mother died in 1944. He attended Bancroft School, Montreal 1928 -1936 (completed Grammar School) and then Baron Byng High School 1936-1940 (completed three and a half years High. Junior Matric). They were living at 17 Villeneuve Street, Montreal. Joseph’s sport interests were skiing, swimming, hockey and baseball. His occupations included working as a Winder for Queen Embroidery during 1940, then as a Shipper 1940-1941 for Canadian Textiles and Windsor Training. Following that he worked as a Salesman for Dolgy Brothers 1941-42 and Leo Samuels in 1942 until enlistment. |
After enlisting on 22 December 1942, Joseph embarked from Halifax on 25 June 1944 arriving in the U.K. at 3 RCAF PRC on 4 July 1944 followed by 3(0)AFU 10 October 1944, 1655 MTU 27 December 1944, and 692 Squadron 28 February 1945. He was killed one month later. |
