Reason for Loss | Attacked by an Me163 rocket-powered fighter immediately after releasing the target indicators, shooting away the rear gun turret, rudder and elevator. Mustangs moved in to provide cover until the aircraft was able to make an unchallenged return across the channel. The remaining crew were ordered to bale out over Woodbridge due to the likelihood of a difficult landing. The mid-upper gunner was injured and therefore unable to comply but in fact neither he nor the pilot were injured in the landing. |
