Service to Commemorate the 85th Anniversary of Heligoland Bight

On December 18th, 1939, the Battle of Heligoland Bight represented one of the first major operations conducted by the Royal Air Force Bomber Command in World War II and saw 22 Wellington Bombers from 9, 39 and 149 Sqns flying to target Wilhelmshaven and the Nazi ships moored there.  Out of the 22 aircraft only 10 returned with the loss of 59 men. This service will pay tribute to the courage and sacrifice of those who served, as well as reflect on the enduring impact of their actions.

The service will see families of those who served, members of the RAF and other dignitaries gathering together to mark this anniversary in the spirit of remembrance and reconciliation.
