    The Making of a Memorial

    The Spire at the International Bomber Command Centre is surrounded by 271 Memorial Walls inscribed with the names of almost 58000 servicemen who lost their lives during World War II. Compiling the underlying data and manufacturing the Walls has taken four years and thousands of voluntary hours.

    The demand for invitations to the Ceremony is going to outstrip the safe capacity for the site which is only 5,000, and so we have tried to look at the fairest way of allocating these amongst the Bomber Command Community. All veterans and IBCC Members will automatically receive their invitations in mid-February. All other spaces will be filled by families with a Bomber Command connection.

    On the evening of the Opening Ceremony, the IBCC will be holding a concert featuringĀ a wide range of music and drama including performances from:

    The Invictus Choir, Lincoln Cathedral Choir, excerpts from The Navigator, the IBCC Community Orchestra, John McAllister and 40's singer, Heather Marie Little.

    There will be catering on site - or you are welcome to bring your own picnic.
