Maintenance/Groundskeeper

The IBCC has over 9 acres of landscaped gardens and parking areas and a building with a variety of maintenance needs.  We are looking for an enthusiastic person to support these areas and work with our volunteers and trainees to ensure the grounds and building are kept in best order.

Job Purpose

The Maintenance and Groundskeeper will ensure that all internal and external public areas are kept clean, tidy, presentable and in a good state of repair. This includes all buildings, gardens, car parking areas and access roads. The Ground and Maintenance Assistant will also monitor and report all safety concerns on the site.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibility 1
With the assistance of appropriate tools and machinery, cut grass, maintain flower beds and planters, sweep up grass cuttings/leaves, trim trees/bushes
Key Responsibility 2
Keep car park and road clean, tidy and safe; check gravel levels and even out where holes or bumps appear
Key Responsibility 3
Keep drainage areas free of blockages
Key Responsibility 4
Ensure all bins around the site are emptied at regular intervals and that refuse is ready for collection when necessary
Key Responsibility 5
Repair and painting of walls, fences, masonry, doors & windows
Key Responsibility 6
Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to request volunteer assistance; work with those volunteers in a responsible and professional manner
Key Responsibility 7
Maintain up to date records including amending or updating the IBCC Maintenance and Management log.
Key Responsibility 8
Work with the external commercial cleaners to ensure that the whole building is kept clean and properly maintained
Key Responsibility 9
Monitor safety and report concerns to the Centre Manager

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in working in a similar environment with substantial grounds and buildings
  • A working knowledge of plant care and propagation
  • A working knowledge of operating appropriate machinery and tools
  • An enthusiastic and positive approach to work
  • The ability to work with limited supervision
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A willingness to share knowledge with volunteers and trainees
  • Willing to work weekends
